Firefighter hit during urban rodeo: "He turned around and spat on the victim," Bruno Retailleau denounces an "abject" act

He condemns "a despicable attempted murder": This Saturday, May 10, in the evening, Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau visited the scene in Évian-les-Bains, in Haute-Savoie, where a 38-year-old volunteer firefighter was seriously injured Saturday morning while trying to put an end to an urban rodeo. After speaking with the family's "devastated" colleagues, the Interior Minister wanted to say a word "to the family of this firefighter, who is still fighting against death" at the Annecy hospital.
Bruno Retailleau then returned to the facts in front of the press: around 6 a.m., three firefighters asked individuals to stop skidding in the parking lot opposite their fire station.
"As they were returning to the fire station, the individual restarted his car at speed and tried to kill those who were there. The chief sergeant was unfortunately brutally knocked over by this car and its driver. After his attack, he turned around, rolled down the window and spat on the victim and another volunteer firefighter who was rescuing his comrade."
The Interior Minister then denounced "a despicable attempted murder" that crossed "all lines," because the suspect "could not have been unaware that he was dealing with firefighters. The mission of France's 240,000 firefighters is to commit to risking their lives to save human lives. That is what this individual has attacked," he continued.
